• Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): A mild sedative inhaled through a mask, nitrous oxide helps you relax while remaining fully conscious. The effects wear off quickly, so you can resume normal activities, including driving, immediately after your procedure.
• Oral Conscious Sedation: A stronger sedation option, oral sedation is taken as a pill before your appointment. It helps you achieve a deeper state of relaxation, but you’ll still be responsive. You’ll need a driver to bring you to and from your appointment.
• IV Sedation: Soon to be offered, IV sedation provides the deepest level of sedation by administering medication directly into the bloodstream. This option can help you to sleep through the procedure, waking up with little to no memory of the treatment.

How Should I Prepare for Sedation Dentistry?

• Fasting: You may need to avoid eating or drinking for several hours prior to your appointment. Generally, we ask that you not eat anything for about 8 hours prior to your procedure. You can drink water until about 2 hours before the procedure begins. Do not drink coffee or caffeinated beverages prior to your appointment.
